Ahead of World AIDS Day (1 December) UNAIDS welcomes a new research project to potentially expand ‘opt-out’ HIV testing programmes across England. GENEVA, 5 May 2023—Many prison systems are struggling to cope, with overcrowding, inadequate resources, limited access to healthcare and other support services, violence and drug use. In 2021, the estimated numbers of people in prisons increased by 24% since the previous year to an estimated 10.8 million people, increasing the strain on already overstretched prison systems.
